First Quantum Minerals
Connecting people and operational strategy.

The starting point.
First Quantum asked for a strategic review of global mobile maintenance: the teams servicing the heavy equipment used in its mining operations. The strategy needed to connect technical reliability with capability, culture and leadership commitment.
Research grounded in context.
Lee Johnson worked with site teams to understand differences in equipment, fleet life, location and operating context. The review brought planned maintenance and benchmarking together with skills, career paths, resource planning and asset plans.
Making the evidence useful.
The strategy also considered on-site training, apprenticeships, trade schools and the communication needed to engage people. These connected elements were brought into a coherent strategy document and investment case.
A clearer way forward.
Project sponsors and the COO signed off the strategy, and the board subsequently approved the investment case. The original account describes implementation as the next phase; projected productivity and cost benefits are therefore not presented as realised results.
Lee has excellent industry knowledge, energy, determination and passion to see a challenging project through.
